I am trying to build  3D Max models for the VHR mod. I have Max 2008, and a whole buttload of useless tutorials. Do you by any chance have a how to on how you created the models for SCE? Or perhaps a how-to on extracting the in-game models? You can reply here or email me at jmustianjr@yahoo.com.

Thanks for any help you can give.

P.S. I believe the models from SCE v.96 are similar to the VHR models...not sure though. I cant find any, anyway.

First off, I did not create the SCE models, they were created by Tim @ Volunteer Graphics. I have no idea what the VHR mod is.

Secondly, no tutorial is "useless". I do not have a how to on either subject. and do not agree with "extracting models from a game", that seems to be most hackers mode-of-operation. for "stealing" others work.

I'm NOT saying that is what you are attempting to do, just stating my opinion on the matter regarding that question.

If you need to build models for something, then you need to take the time to learn max and how to model. Which is where the no tutorial is useless comes in. That's the best way to start out. and if you have no experience in creating models, you aren't gonna make a decent car model right off the bat. You need to learn the tools and the basics of modeling first.

Good luck. If I can help with specific questions I'll be glad too.

First off, I did not create the SCE models, they were created by Tim @ Volunteer Graphics. I have no idea what the VHR mod is. Sorry about the mistake here. I was under the impression that you had something to do with it as well. You and I have spoken before, a few years ago, via the old sierra boards. For some reason, I seem to recall you having had built some models from scratch back when NR2003 first came out. My handle back in those days ( and to which I still paint by) was Passinleaux.

Secondly, no tutorial is "useless". I do not have a how to on either subject. and do not agree with "extracting models from a game", that seems to be most hackers mode-of-operation. for "stealing" others work. The reason I said useless is because of my job, I am only able to work on these during my free time, of which I don't have much at all. So, yes, if you have the time to read them and study them , they are beyond useful. Unfortunately, I do not. As for the hacking angle, I never actually thought of it like that, but you have a valid point there, so I have abandoned that approach, and began work on my own models.( Had to restock my Jack daniels supply twice during the first attempt!!!)

I'm NOT saying that is what you are attempting to do, just stating my opinion on the matter regarding that question.

Anyway, thanks for the response. It is good to see your page still up and fuctioniing after all these years. Do you still race NR2003? The VHR mod is actually for Rfactor, and it is OK. But, I was talking to Smoke, over at omg3ga, and evidently, the guys at VHR stol the models from them, soooo, there is a bit of tension betwixt them. As a guy who is almost 40, I just don't get all the shit that seems to st folks off, but thats just me. My last question of you is this..... do you by any chance know a good site to get some vehicle blueprints. Most of the tuts I have read thus far all agree that using a good set of vehicle blueprints is a great way to start your own models.

Again, thanks for your help.

Ciao

John
